Want to lose those extra Christmas pounds?

The Cinder Track park run is a free, weekly, timed 5k walk/jog/run at 9:00am every Saturday starting on the Whitby Sixth Form site.

The run is open to all ages and abilities, participants take part for their own enjoyment, you can run, jog, walk, spectate or even volunteer to help. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

The course is 5000m (5k) long. Which has been accurately measured by the park run team using a professional measuring wheel.

The event is run along the historic tree lined Cinder Track, with the route offering majestic views of Whitby and the Esk Valley as you cross the iconic Whitby Viaduct. The newly resurfaced Cinder Track offers an ideal surface to enjoy your run, walk or jog. The start and finish are within the Whitby Sixth Form grounds by the Oak tree.

Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

If you are interested in participating in the run and would like to register for FREE or would simply like some further information please visit https://www.parkrun.org.uk/thecindertrack/

Facilities

Whitby Sixth Form has ample parking, a well stocked and welcoming café which is located in a building that has changing facilities and toilet provision; which includes disabled facilities. The site also has ample playing field space for non – participants to enjoy informal sports or walks.

Volunteer

Volunteering at park run is an opportunity to get outside, make new friends, have fun, learn new skills and to be a valuable part of your local community.

What would I do at the Event?

First, and most importantly, the park run team would never ask anybody to do anything they’re not comfortable with. If you don’t want a particular task, simply let the team know and you will be given an alternative job. Nevertheless, none of the tasks are too stressful. You could be organising the finish funnel, operating the timer, or scanning barcodes using the simple Virtual Volunteer app.
