Dementia Action Week to be hosted by the Whitby Area Development trust at the Coliseum

Dementia Action Week is an annual awareness raising campaign to encourage people who are concerned that they or someone they know may be experiencing dementia symptoms to seek further help.

Each year, the campaign works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’.

Between Mon 15 and Fri 19 May 2023 the Whitby Area Development Trust, based at the Coliseum, will be hosting a series of events in their theatre.  All events are free and open to everyone. Drinks and light refreshments are available.

To find out more about local support for dementia, including diagnosis, call at the drop – in session at the Coliseum on Weds 17 May. Support workers from Dementia Forward, Alzheimer’s Society, Advocacy Alliance, Carers Plus and the local Dementia Care Co-ordinator from Whitby Group Practice will be available between 2pm and 4 pm to meet people living with dementia, their carers and anyone wanting further information.

The Development Trust’s Chief Executive, Celia Imogen said ‘It’s important that those who are concerned that they or someone close to them might be experiencing signs of dementia are able to find guidance and support. Services for people living with dementia were badly impacted during the pandemic and the Development Trust is trying to assist specialist organisations to re-establish local support.’

If you would like to be involved in this local initiative, as a volunteer or supporter, please contact the Whitby Area Development Trust at the Coliseum.
